PV Sindhu adds more firepower to coaching team with Lee Hyun Il, Anup Sridhar to continue as interim coach

A week after appointing Anup Sridhar as interim coach, PV Sindhu has roped in South Korea's Lee Hyun Il as a consulting coach

Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has named South Korea’s Lee Hyun Il has her consulting coach. Hyun will join Anup Sridhar, who was earlier appointed as her interim coach. The duo will coach PV Sindhu till December 2024 and will get started by preparring the shuttler for her return to action in October, the first time since Paris Olympics.

PV Sindhu ropes in Lee Hyun Il as consulting coach

While the duo will coach PV Sindhu till the end of this year, a decision on her permanent coaching staff is expected to be made around that time. The shuttler will return to action in the Arctic Open in Finland in October. Lee Hyun is a former world number 1 player who has played alongside Sindhu in the Premier Badminton League (PBL).

I’m thrilled to have Anup Sridhar and Lee Hyun Il joining my team in this crucial period. Anup’s understanding of Indian badminton and his strategic approach has always impressed me, and I look forward to working closely with him,” Sindhu said in a release.

Lee Hyun has an impressive record with two Asian Games team gold medals and a broze world championships medal. Along with Sridhar, the South Korean will aim to improve Sindhu’s game as she prepares for the European circuit.

PV Sindhu eyes to hit reset button

With this new partnership, and a much-deserved break, the two-time Olympic medalist would be looking to win her first title since 2022, when she had clinched the Singapore Open. She is ranked 14th in the world currently, and is not in contention for the BWF World Tour Final as well.
