World Chess Champion, D Gukesh met the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 28 (Saturday). D Gukesh also handed the winning chess board to PM Narendra Modi, used during the World Chess Championship final between Gukesh and Ding Liren. The chessboard, autographed by Gukesh and his opponent Ding Liren, is a cherished memento for PM Modi, who praised Gukesh’s dedication, confidence, and calm demeanor.
“Had an excellent interaction with chess champion and India’s pride, @DGukesh! I have been closely interacting with him for a few years now, and what strikes me most about him is his determination and dedication. His confidence is truly inspiring. In fact, I recall seeing a video of his few years ago where he had said he would become the youngest world champion—a prediction that has now clearly come true thanks to his own efforts.” PM Narendra Modi wrote on his social media post.
“Along with confidence, Gukesh embodies calmness and humility. Upon winning, he was composed, basking in his glory while fully understanding how to process this hard-earned victory. Our conversation today revolved around the transformative potential of yoga and meditation. he added.
D Gukesh became youngest Chess champion
The 18-year-old Gukesh defeated China’s Ding Liren 7.5-6.5 in Singapore this month to become the youngest-ever world champion, overhauling Russia’s Garry Kasparov’s long-standing mark. He further added, “I am very glad to be here. I could see the support that and what it means to India…You guys are amazing. You gave me so much energy.”
Gukesh is the second Indian to claim the world title after the great Viswanathan Anand. Anand played a pivotal role in shaping the teenager at his academy. During the match, the championship, which was tied at 6.5-6.5 heading into the final game, concluded with a stellar performance by Gukesh, who secured a 7.5-6.5 victory over Ding Liren.
