Praveen Kumar, a high jump athlete from Uttar Pradesh, secured India’s 26th medal at the Paris Paralympics. He won the gold in the Men’s High Jump T64 event on Friday, finishing with his best attempt of 2.08 m. He also smashed the Asian record. Derek Loccident of the USA secured the silver medal with a 2.06m jump, while Temurbek Giyazov of Uzbekistan earned bronze with a 2.03m jump.
The 21-year-old athlete has become only the second Indian, following Mariyappan Thangavelu, to win gold in Paralympic high jump events.
Second Paralympic medal for Praveen
This is Praveen Kumar’s second Paralympic medal. Earlier, at Tokyo 2020, he won a silver medal in the High Jump T64 event. Recently, at the Asian Para Games, he clinched the gold medal in the same event.

India has now won 26 medals at the Paralympics, including 6 gold, 9 silver, and 11 bronze medals. The country is currently ranked among the top 20 nations in the event.
