On Thursday, India’s best singles player currently, Sumit Nagal lost his Australian Open 2024 second round match to Chinese prodigy JC Shang 6-2, 3-6, 5-7, 4-6, but he seems to have done enough to get a belief, that he can do better at the ATP circuit.
Not only Nagal won his three qualifying round matches at the AO, but he also beat World No. 27 Alexander Bubik of Kazakhstan, in the first round of the tournament. This only means, the Indian has it in him to be a champion player and, improve his rankings, maybe get into the top-50 or top-75, by the end of this year.
But for now, as per the live ATP rankings, he seems to have achieved a new career-high. Nagal, for now, is at the 118th spot, after garnering 80 points here at the AO. He has surpassed his previous best of 122nd position, and has 530 points overall. The next Indian on the list is Ramkumar Ramanathan at 458.
