While one was expecting PM Modi to tweet about wrestler Vinesh Phogat, sometime on Wednesday, but one only thought it would be a congratulatory message for winning a silver or gold medal at the Paris Olympics. But that was not to be, as Vinesh was disqualified from the 50 kg event altogether, after being found overweight during the weigh-in.
Instead, the prime minister could only offer his support to the heartbroken wrestler, Vinesh, who had done exceptionally well to be in a position to land a medal in her third Olympics. In a tweet, the PM wrote, “Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India’s pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian. Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing. At the same time, I know that you epitomise resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head on. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you.”
What Went Wrong With Vinesh Phogat?
As of now, there are a lot of ifs and buts regarding Vinesh’s disqualification. While some sources claim she was overweight by 100 gm, other claim it was 72, 150 or even 200 gm. But what is certain is that she would return home empty-handed, without a medal in her third Olympics.
