Manu Bhaker has ended India’s medal drought in shooting at the Olympics. The 22-year-old, who couldn’t find a podium finish due to a gun malfunction in Tokyo, has finally come good when it mattered the most, winning the bronze in Women’s 10m Air Pistol. Bhaker has become the first Indian to win a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and that has earned her heavy praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Modi lauds Manu Bhaker
Bhaker hasn’t just won India’s first medal in Paris but has also become the first-ever woman from the nation to win a medal in shooting. This is also India’s first medal in shooting since Vijay Kumar earned a silver in the 2012 London Olympics.
“A historic medal! Well done, Manu Bhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at Paris Olympics! Congrats on the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!” PM Modi wrote, congratulating Bhaker for her achievement.
