India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated shooters Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal for winning the gold and bronze medals respectively, at the Paris Paralympics. The duo clinched their medals in the 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event. Avani secured the gold, while Mona won the bronze.
PM Modi tweeted, “Congratulations to @AvaniLekhara for winning the coveted gold in the R2 Women’s 10M Air Rifle SH1 event. She also makes history as the first Indian woman athlete to win 3 Paralympic medals! Her dedication continues to make India proud.”
For Mona, Modi said, “Congratulations to Mona Agarwal on winning the Bronze medal in the R2 Women’s 10m Air Rifle SH1 event at the Paris #Paralympics2024. Her remarkable achievement reflects her dedication and quest for excellence. India is proud of Mona.”

First Indian Woman to Clinch Two Gold Medals
Avani has come a long way to the Paris Paralympics. At the Tokyo Paralympics, she won the gold medal in the same category and has now become the first-ever Indian woman athlete to win two gold medals at the Paralympics.
