Playing safe before Olympics? Neeraj Chopra to give Paris Diamond League a skip

Ace Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will now be seen in action at the Paris Olympics after he has chosen to skip the Diamond League event

India’s ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is all set to miss the Paris Diamond League which is scheduled to begin on July 17. His move comes just before the much awaited Paris Olympics. The announcement made by the Paris Diamond League website on the champions taking part in the event does not mention Neeraj’s name.

Neeraj Chopra puts Paris Olympics on priority

Neeraj Chopra will reportedly not take part in the event because he isn’t required to compete in it. This means the ace athlete’s next main event will be the Paris Olympics. Earlier in May, Neeraj had confirmed his participation in this very league.

The 26-year-old Tokyo Olympics champion recently decimated the opposition to win a gold at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland. Facing German teen sensation Max Dehning for the very first time, Neeraj Chopra produced a best throw of 85.97m to take the top prize on the day.

Neeraj Sets Tone for Paris Olympics 2024

Toni Keränen (84.19m) bagged the silver medal, while Oliver Helander (83.96m) took home the bronze at the Paavo Nurmi competition. As far as Neeraj Chopra’s season is concerned, he started the year with a throw of 88.36m at the Doha Diamond League, and followed that up with a gold at the Federations Cup.
