Lakshya Sen

Lakshya Sen is an Indian badminton player, who is a former world junior no. 1. He has won gold medals at the 2018 Asian Junior Championships in the boys’ singles and at the Summer Youth Olympics in the mixed team event. He won the bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships and was runner-up at the 2022 All England Open.

Lakshya comes from a badminton family. His father D.K Sen is one of the most respected coaches on the Indian badminton circuit while his paternal grandfather used to play the sport at his hometown in Almora. Moreover, his elder brother Chirag who was a national rank holder in U-13 age group, also had an influence on his badminton career.

The love for badminton runs in Lakshya’s family as his father is a coach while his brother, Chirag Sen, is also a player. In fact, it was Chirag, the elder of the two, who took up the sport first. A very young Lakshya would accompany his brother to the tournament, and that is where he first saw the competition up close.

Lakshya received his training at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, one of the country’s best, and was ranked the number one singles player in the BWF World Junior ranking.

Training and Preparation

Lakshya Sen will debut at the Olympics in Paris 2024. He has qualified for the Olympics for the first time. The last two years haven’t been the best for Lakshya, but as a former World No. 6, he has the potential to deliver the goods, when it matters the most. He is training closely with Vimal Kumar in Bengaluru.
