Rohan Bopanna ends his India career, says ‘played my last match’ after Paris Olympics exit

Rohan Bopanna and Sriram Balaji faced a heartbreaking first-round exit in their first game of the men's doubles at the Paris Olympics

India’s tennis ace Rohan Bopanna has played his last match for India. After crashing out in the first round of the Paris Olympics, the 44-year-old, who had already hinted at his retirement before the Summer Games, has confirmed that he won’t represent India from now on. Bopanna was aiming for a prestigious gold medal in Paris to sign off, but with partner Balaji, they faced a first-round exit in the men’s doubles as they lost to their French rivals.

Rohan Bopanna retires

This will definitely go down as my last event for the country. I totally understand where I am and now, I am just going to be enjoying the tennis circuit as long as that goes,” Bopanna said.

India’s medal hopes goes down the drain as Bopanna-Balaji fail

Bopanna and Balaji were no match for their opponents and lost the game 5-7, 2-6. While the seasoned Bopanna looked out of touch throughout the game, Balaji was the only one putting up a fight. The opponents however used Bopanna’s form in their favour and targeted him, while forcing Balaji to either commit errors or hit the nets only.

Hopes were high with the Indian duo to lead India’s charge in Tennis at the Paris Olympics. But that was not the case to be. Veteran Rohan Bopanna and his partner Sriram Balaji were completely overpowered by their French counterparts.
