Kabaddi can be a cruel sport. Of course, the amount of physical beating a player’s body takes is beyond imagination, but at the same time, perhaps the pressure of performing is even more. This is something that happened with UP Yoddhas skipper Pardeep Narwal in their very first match of PKL 2023, against U Mumba on Saturday.
In a rare sight, Pardeep, the ‘Dubki King’, could not garner any points before being benched by coach Jasveer Singh. In the six raids he had in the first half, he had two unsuccessful and four empty ones. This result is nothing less than poor for a raider who has the most number of records in Pro Kabaddi history.

Despite this result, Pardeep is not only the most successful raider but the most successful player in Pro Kabaddi. In the 157 matches played, he scored 1577 points, the most in PKL by any player. If that is not enough, he has a staggering 1180 successful raids, once again the most by any player in PKL. He has the highest number of Super 10s as well – 79. The record for the most number of super raids also belongs to Pardeep – 73.
