Maninder Singh hails from Punjab. Before making a mark at the national level, Maninder played circle Kabaddi, having learnt the same from his father. However, he impressed after a switch to the traditional format and the rest is history.

‘In Punjab there is a lot of circle Kabaddi. played. My father used to play and that’s how I picked up the sport. I had to switch the format for a national tournament. I performed well and Punajb coach encouraged me to continue,’ Maninder Singh said.

Bengal Warriors are currently 8th in the PKL points table. With the PKL Playoffs race heating up, Maninder Singh admits that Bengal will find it tough to make the top 6.

‘There is a lot of competition this year, there is just a difference of a couple of points. The top three teams have qualified. It is difficult, we have to win every match to make the playoffs,’ Maninder Singh added.

A long tournament like PKL brings in a lot of challenges for the players. Players stay away from their homes for months on the line, adding strain on their mental health. While admitting the pressure, Singh added that much of the focus goes on being fit and available for the tournament.

Maninder revealed, “After the PKL, we take a week-long break and go home. Other than that, year-round, we are training, going to the grounds practising and working on our fitness. If there are any injuries, then rest and rehabilitation.”

He added, “We focus on fitness, the more fit we are, the more we can play in the PKL. The addition of physios and trainers have helped a lot. They give us valuable input which helps us get better on the pitch.”
