The Indian kabaddi captain, Pawan Sehrawat pipped Iran’s Mohammadreza Shadloui to become the most expensive player in the Pro Kabaddi history, on Monday. Just an hour after the Iranian Shadloui surpassed Sehrawat’s record of 2022, the Indian reclaimed his top spot.
Pawan Sehrawat most-expensive twice
Pawan went to Telugu Titans for a mammoth INR 2.6 Cr, while Shadloui had secured a contract with Puneri Paltan for 2.35 Cr, earlier in the day. The Indian is fresh from winning the Asian Games gold medal, where the team pipped Iran in the final. It was expected for him to fetch an amount that would once make him the most expensive player.
Last year, Pawan was sold to Tamil Thalaivas in the PKL auction for 2.26 Cr, but was injured in the first match itself, and could not participate any further in the tournament. In fact, he had to undergo knee surgery as well but made a comeback in 2023. His numbers were brilliant in season 8, while playing for Bengaluru Bulls, where he scored 314 points.
Other Expensive Buys in Pro Kabaddi 2023
Apart from Sehrawat and Shadloui, Maninder Singh also bagged a big contract. The Bengal Warriors used the FBM to get back the services of their captain for the last few seasons. On the other hand, Fazel Atrachali went to Gujarat Giants for 1.60 Cr, while Ashu Malik stayed with Dabang Delhi (FBM), for a price of 96.25 lakh.
