Paris Paralympics: Yogesh Kathuniya bags silver in discus F56 with season-best throw

Yogesh Kathuniya clinched silver in the men’s discus F56 final at the Paris Paralympics, achieving a season-best throw of 42.22m at Stade de France.

India’s discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver medal for India in the men’s discus F56 final at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. The event was held at Stade de France on Monday. The athlete from Haryana managed a best throw of 42.22m, which was his season’s best. Brazil’s Claudiney Batista dos Santos won the gold with a Paralympic Record of 46.86m. Greece’s Konstantinos Tzounis won the bronze with a best throw of 41.32m.

This is the second Paralympic medal for the 27-year-old Kathuniya. Earlier, he had won a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics as well.

Batista shatters Paralympics record

Brazil’s Claudiney Batista shattered the all-time Paralympics record (45.59m) with his second throw of 46.45m. However, he didn’t stop there and went on to reach 46.86m in his second-last attempt. The Brazilian bagged his third gold medal at the Paralympics. He had earlier won gold medals in the Rio and Tokyo Paralympics. He also won a silver in the London 2012 Paralympics, but in the javelin throw.

The wait continues for Yogesh

Yogesh still has to wait for his first Paralympic gold. He achieved his season’s best throw in his first attempt but couldn’t win the gold this time. In World Championships, he has also won silver in Paris and Kobe.
