Paris Olympics: In a season for firsts Paris Olympics bring out floating Olympics Villages in mega cruise ship for surfers in Tahiti

The Paris Olympics have been first for quite a few reasons. Be it for the first time the teams arrived in the opening ceremony on a boat, to having floating Olympic Village. Yes for surfers who are participating in the mega tournament, 48 surfers are staying in a luxurious cruise ship.

48 surfers who will be taking part in the tournament arrived in Tahiti in a 413 feet cruise ship. The coastal town of Tahiti fails to provide proper Olympic Village accommodations. As a result the Aranui 5 cruise ship is set to serve the purpose.

The cruise ship is currently anchored in a lagoon which is nearby to the surfing venue of Paris Olympics. The surfers were pleasantly surprised and overjoyed with the special accommodations that have been made for them. “It’s my first time on a cruise ship, so yeah, it’s fun,” said New Zealand surfer Billy Stairmand toAssociated Press.

“It’s awesome. We got nice rooms and it’s very comfortable. Got our own little space, we’ve got a gym, got everything you need so yeah, it’s a good vibe on the boat for sure,” Stairmand told Reuters.

Paris Olympics’ special Floating Village

The cruise ship currently hosts 28 athletes who are taking part from 19 different countries. Each surfer has been assigned to a single room. The luxurious room consists of a double bed. Other amenities’ include the likes of TV and other special features.

“It’s cool. I love Tahiti, it’s very powerful place, so it’s awesome to wake up here and kind of check the coastline every morning and feel refreshed and energised,” Stairmand concluded.
