Paris Olympics: No Kylian Mbappe as France announce 25-member preliminary squad

Paris Olympics: France U23 Team preliminary squad announced, no Kylian Mbappe by Thierry Henry claim spot still open

France Team has announced their preliminary squad for Paris Olympics. But one of the major names missing is that of ace forward Kylian Mbappe. France’s U23 manager Thierry Henry however, hasn’t ruled out the option of the star forward in joining the team for the grand event.

Essentially, in Olympics, the U23 squads participate. But there is provision to include 3 overage players. As a result, Mbappe who is now 25 years old can easily take part in the tournament. In other news, Real Madrid is set to announce the joining of Mbappe to the La Liga side soon.

“I am not closing the door on hope, we don’t know what will happen. But I must present a realistic list. The list is open to everyone,” Henry told reporters.

“The people I spoke with were very straightforward. This is the current list, and it can change until July 3. Clubs have the power to say yes or no,” Henry added.

Final call by Real Madrid

Without naming, Henry has made it clear that the final call to release the player would be made by the parent club. In this case, it will be Real Madrid’s decision if they want to allow Mbappe to leave for Paris Olympics.

While it remains to be seen if Mbappe makes the cut, other overaged players will surely take part in Olympics. Manchester City has claimed that striker Julian Alvarez will be allowed to participate in the tournament. It remains to be seen, if Lionel Messi to joins Javier Mascherano’s boys in Paris.
