India’s hopes of securing a medal in singles table tennis events ended with Sreeja Akula losing to World number 1 Sun Yingsha in the round of 16 at Paris Olympics. The Chinese paddler never let Akula settle, clinching the 4-set game in a dominating fashion with a score line of 12-10, 12-10, 11-8, and 11-3.
Sreeja Akula outclassed at Paris Olympics
The first two sets saw a hard fought competition between the two paddlers, with Sreeja managing to display a strong fight back. However, Sun got the better of Akula, scoring back to back points towards the last to clinch the first two sets.
The third and the fourth sets were only adding more salt to the injury for Akula as she was outclassed by her Chinese rival. Yingsha won the third set 11-8 while going to clinch the fourth in an emphatic fashion with a 11-3 win and a game that lasted for just six minutes.
Earlier, she won her Round of 32 match in women’s singles table tennis, defeating Singapore’s Jing Yang 4-2.
