In a bid to reduce carbon footprint, mostly vegan food will be served to the athletes and the staff in Paris Olympics. The food in the Olympic village will mostly be plant based and less in meat, and dairy products. The reason – Paris Olympics’ bid to reduce consumption of animal meat and thereby reducing carbon footprint during the global event.
Aim to reduce Carbon Emissions
Different Olympics had their fair share of concerns. While Rio struggled with infrastructure, Tokyo on the other hand had a major job on contaminating Covid-virus. But for Paris, the aim is to reduce carbon footprint. Construction of new venues substantially increase carbon emission. But since Paris is already established, it has taken the role to reduce less meat and milk products.
Reports claim that the Olympic Games Village produces an estimate of 13 million meals for athletes, staff and the media personnel. But in Paris Olympics, roughly 60% of the food will be plant based. Currently Paris plans on reducing carbon emission to abut 50% less. Back in London Olympics, the emission was 3.4 million metric ton, In Tokyo it was 1.96 million metric tons. Paris plans on bringing it down to 1.58 million metric tons.
Vegan food in Paris Olympics?
Paris Olympics will be serving a majority of fruits and vegetables. But they won’t be exported. Instead, majority of the local produce will be used in food in the French capital. Around 60% of the food will be vegan and plant based. Furthermore, there is a a huge reduction in cheese and dairy products.
Instead the athletes will be served with synthetic meat as Paris aim to look to go Vegan.
