Paris Olympics: Egyptian bronze medalist arrested on suspicion of sexual assault

Olympic bronze medalist is on the verge of receiving a lifetime ban after an allegedly sexual case. Egyptian superstar wrestler Mohamed Elsayd's career could be tarnished.

Mohamed Elsayd, the Egyptian Olympic wrestler, was arrested in Paris on suspicion of sexual assault, which could lead to significant trouble for him. The wrestler was detained for allegedly groping another customer’s buttocks at a café, which made customers furious. According to reports, an inquiry has been launched.

Could face a lifetime ban

Elsayed, who won bronze at the Tokyo Games, was eliminated in the round of 16 at the Paris Games on Wednesday by Azerbaijani wrestler Hasrat Jafarov. He was arrested by French police on Friday outside a café in Paris on suspicion of sexual assault and was found to be drunk, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office. The Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) has announced that Elsayed will face a disciplinary hearing. If the charges are proven, he could face a lifetime ban from competition.

Who is Mohamed Elsayd?

Speaking more about Elsayad, he was a superstar in Egypt with numerous titles. And apart from the bronze medal he won at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He has also won multiple gold medals at the African Wrestling Championships, the African Games, and the Military World Games.

However, after his poor performance at the Paris Olympics and his recent arrest, his career is now in jeopardy. The incident has tarnished his reputation and has significant implications for his future in the sport.
