Arshad Nadeem’s mother calls Neeraj Chopra ‘her son’, wishes for more medals going forward

Having gone against Neeraj nine times before, Arshad had never been able to outthrow him. That changed yesterday when he threw an absolute missile (92.97 m) to shock not only Neeraj but the whole world.

Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra aren’t just Olympic champions but gems of humans as well. They remain humble despite reaching the highest echelons of their sport. The reason these sportsmen remain so down to earth are their mothers. Born 450 kilometers apart, Arshad and Neeraj were raised to be thorough gentleman’s.

Moments after their sons were crowned gold and silver medalists, the media rushed to their homes and asked the mothers how they felt. Both were happy that their son finished on the podium. This was especially true for Neeraj’s mother, Saroj Devi, who wasn’t saddened about her son not being able to defend his gold medal and had to settle for a silver instead. “We’re happy with silver. The one who won gold (Arshad Nadeem) is also my child and works hard.” Neeraj’s mother said.

In Pakistan, Arshad Nadeem’s mother said, “He’s (Neeraj Chopra), my son’s friend and brother. Winning and losing is part of the game. He’s like my son, and I hope God gives him much success and many medals after this.”
