Ramita Jindal qualifies for Women’s 10m air rifle Olympic final; Elavenil Valarivan crumbles under pressure

While Ramita Jindal will now focus on securing a medal in the final, Elavenil Valarivan will be aiming to bounce back in the upcoming events.

India’s fortunes in the women’s 10m air rifle event at the Paris Olympics took a dramatic turn, with the 20-year-old Ramita Jindal qualifying for the final and Elavenil Valarivan suffering a heartbreaking elimination.

Ramita Jindal – Ice in her veins

Ramita Jindal delivered a consistent performance throughout the qualification round, securing her place in the final with a score of 631.5 as she finished 5th. The Indian shooter displayed composure under pressure, maintaining a strong position throughout the competition.

Elavenil Valarivan – Under Pressure

In contrast, Elavenil Valarivan’s campaign ended in disappointment. Despite a promising start, the experienced shooter faltered in the latter stages of the qualification, with a series of low scores proving costly. A crucial miss in the final shot saw her slip out of the top eight, denying her a place in the final.

In fact, before the last two shots of the qualification, Elavenil Valarivan was comfortably qualifying for the final with a spot in a Top-8. But with a horrible 9.8 on her penultimate shot, the Indian found herself out of Top-8 and eventually slipped to 10th spot with a 10.3 on her last shot.

Contrasting fortunes of Indian Shooting

The contrasting fortunes of the two Indian shooters highlight the fine margins that separate success from failure at the Olympic level. While Ramita Jindal will now focus on securing a medal in the final, Elavenil Valarivan will be aiming to bounce back in the upcoming events.

The Indian shooting team will be hoping for a strong performance from Ramita Jindal in the final, as she looks to win the country’s first medal in the shooting events at the Paris Olympics.

The mixed fortunes of the Indian shooters serve as a reminder of the intense competition at the Olympic level, where even the slightest error can prove costly.
