Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat has displayed decent form in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympics, as he clinched a silver medal at the Polyak Imre and Varga Janos Memorial 2024 wrestling tournament in Budapest, Hungary on Thursday. Aman, who plays in the 57 kg category, lost to Rio 2016 silver medalist Rei Higuchi of Japan 11-1. Not to forget, Higuchi had won a silver medal in the World Championships in 2023.
At the start of the day, Aman Sehrawat posted a clinical win over Roberti Dingashvili of Georgia in the quarters, and then went on to beat Aryan Tsiutryn 14-4 in the semis. Meanwhile, this is the last wrestling ranking series before the Paris 2024 Olympics. That means, this is the last chance for the grapplers to improve upon their rankings.
An improved ranking would mean a better seed for them, at the Paris 2024 Games. In all, India has five wrestlers, who have qualified for the Olympics, including five women wrestlers as well. The likes of 2020 Tokyo Olympics medalists Bajrang Punia and Ravi Dahiya could not book their berth for the Olympics this time around.
Antim Panghal in Action Too
There is still something left in this ranking tournament for the Indians as Antim Panghal and Vinesh Phogat will also participate in this tournament. Both these women wrestlers have made it to the Olympics as well, in 50 kg and 57 kg categories, respectively.
