Indian wrestling star Vinesh Phogat will have her personal coach and physiotherapist by her side at the crucial Asia Olympic Qualifiers, scheduled to begin this Friday. This comes after the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) secured accreditation for them following a special request to the event organizers.
Vinesh Phogat Concerns Addressed
Last week, Vinesh Phogat, a multiple world championship medalist, expressed concern on social media about potential logistical hurdles preventing her support staff from attending the qualifiers.
She stated that she had been requesting accreditation for her coach and physiotherapist from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for a month, but hadn’t received a concrete response.
WFI special request ensures support
The WFI acknowledged that Phogat’s request for accreditation arrived after the official deadline for submitting entries to the United World Wrestling (UWW).
However, they intervened by making a special request to the organizers of the Asia Qualifiers. WFI President Sanjay Singh confirmed to PTI they received accreditation for both coach and physio, ensuring Phogat will have her full support team present.
