Pan Pacific Open LIVE: All you need to know – After the Silicon Valley Classic in August this year, a WTA 500 tournament is all set to begin this week with the Pan Pacific Open. The hardcourt tournament will be played on indoor hardcourt at Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo. The tournament makes its return after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The last edition was held in the year 2019. It is set to feature top players like former World No.1 and defending champion Naomi Osaka, reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, Paula Badosa, Caroline Garcia among others. Paula Badosa is the top seed
Top seed Paula Badosa leads the first quarter of the draws. The Spaniard makes her return to the circuit after a disappointing show at the US Openwhere she bowed out from the second round. She is looking to get back to form and will begin her campaign from the second round. She will face either Qinwen Zheng or Misaki Doi in her first game of the tournament.
Alison Riske is the only other seeded player in the quarter. She begins her campaign at Tokyo after a first round defeat at the Chennai Open last week. She takes on her compatriot Claire Liu in the first round. Elise Mertens and Wang Qiang are the other players in the quarter and they face each other in the first round.
Veronika Kudermetova headlines second quarter
Fourth seed Veronika Kudermetova leads the second quarter of the draws. She also received a bye to the second round and will face the winner between Sofia Kenin and qualifier Contreras Gomez. Fifth seed Batriz Haddad Maia is the other seeded player in this quarter. She faces Japan’s wildcard entrant Yuki Naito in the first round. Defending champion Naomi Osaka is also part of this draw and she faces unseeded Daria Saville in the first round. Naomi Osaka and Haddad Maia are likely to face each other in the second round.

Garbine Muguruza, who is the third seed, leads the third quarter of the draws. She will begin her campaign from the second round and will face either Despina Papamichail or You Xiaodi in the second round. Both the players are qualifiers. Reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, who received a wildcard entry to the tournament is the eight seed. She is also part of the quarter and begins her campaign against Ludmila Samsonova. She is likely to face the winner between Xin Wang and Ellen Perez in the second round.
Caroline Garcia leads final quarter
Caroline Garcia, who has been on a dream run this year enters the Pan Pacific Open as the second seed. Garcia who reached her maiden US Open semifinal this year will begin her campaign from the second round and will face either Mai Hontama or Zhang Shuai. Garcia is likely to face a challenge from sixth seed Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinal. Pliskova is the sixth seed in the tournament and faces qualifier Isabella Shinikova in the first round. Petra Martic and qualifier Rina Saigo from Japan are the other players in this quarter.
