‘Oh my god, yes!’: Manu Bhaker reacts on being named the flag bearer at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony

Manu Bhaker is the first athlete in independent India to win two medals at a single Olympic Games.

India’s star shooter Manu Bhaker has been selected as the flag-bearer for the Paris Olympics 2024. The 22-year-old Manu Bhaker made history by securing two Olympic medals in a single edition of the Games.

She began India’s medal count with a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event and followed up with another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh. Though she narrowly missed out on becoming the first Indian to win three Olympic medals by falling short in the women’s 25m pistol event, her achievements remain remarkable. The closing ceremony will take place on 11th August.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) shared a video of Manu Bhaker’s reaction to the news on social media, where she looked excited. Here’s the video:

Manu to stay at the Olympic village

Manu participated in three events at the Olympics: the 10m air pistol (women’s and mixed team), in which she won two medals, and the 25m air pistol, where she finished fourth. While all athletes are set to return after the shooting events conclude on August 5, Manu will remain in the Olympic village as she is the flag-bearer for the Paris Olympics closing ceremony.
