October 2024 sports schedule: Treesa-Gayatri eye BWF finals, PKL action begins, no Manu Bhaker in ISSF World Cup

October brings thrilling sports action, including the ISSF World Cup, Pro Kabaddi League, ISSF World Cup Final, and major badminton and hockey fixures.

The action in sports never stops, and even more exciting days are ahead for India’s sporting scene. October brings a host of events for Indian players and teams, with top-tier international competitions like ISSF World Cup finals alongside domestic action like the Pro Kabaddi League. Let’s take a look at the schedule for Indian sports in October.

Badminton: Series of BWF events coming up

The upcoming badminton tournaments offer thrilling international action, beginning with the Clash Royale Arctic Open 2024, powered by Yonex, from 8th to 13th October in Vantaa, Finland. This will be followed by the Victor Denmark Open 2024 from 15th to 20th October in Odense, Denmark. The month ends with the Hylo Open 2024 in Saarbrucken, Germany, from 29th October to 3rd November. Indian players are expected to participate, with the doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand eyeing a spot in the BWF Tour Finals in December.

Shooting: ISSF World Cup Final

India will host some of the world’s top shooters at the prestigious ISSF World Cup Final, which will be held at the Karni Singh Ranges in Delhi from 13th to 18th October 2024. This event marks the season finale for elite pistol, rifle, and shotgun shooters as they compete to determine the year’s best.

Medalists from the 12 individual shooting events at the Paris Olympics, along with last year’s title winners from Doha, Qatar, automatically qualify for the event. Additionally, the top six shooters in the ISSF World Cup rankings will also participate, with a maximum of two shooters per country in each event. As the host nation, India can also grant wild-card entries. However, India’s Olympic medalists, Manu Bhaker, Swapnil Kusale, and Sarabjot Singh, will not be part of this prestigious event.

Kabaddi: Pro Kabaddi Season 11

Season 11 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 2024) kicks off on October 18 in Hyderabad. Unlike the traditional 12-venue format, this season will feature matches at just three locations. The first leg will be played in Hyderabad, with the second leg moving to Noida Indoor Stadium from November 10.

Hockey: India vs Germany Series

The Indian men’s hockey team will face reigning world champions Germany in a two-match series at New Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium on October 23-24. The two teams last met in the semifinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics, where Germany edged out India 3-2. Craig Fulton’s men later claimed bronze by defeating Spain 2-1. India will now be seeking revenge in this much-anticipated series.
