Novak Djokovic pokes fun at Andy Murray following his exit from Australian Open 2024

Novak Djokovic, the current World Number 1 in tennis, took a playful jab at his long-time rival, Andy Murray, following Murray's unexpected exit from the 2024 Australian Open at the hands of Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Novak Djokovic didn’t miss the opportunity to mock his tennis rival, Andy Murray, who suffered an unexpected exit from the Australian Open 2024 in the first round on Monday. Murray, originally slated to face Djokovic in the third round, was defeated by Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

The two tennis legends, known for their epic battles over the last 15 years, were set for their 37th encounter, but Murray’s early departure altered the anticipated showdown. Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, has maintained his dominance in the sport, while Murray has navigated a near career-ending injury and subsequent comeback.

Following Murray’s loss, Djokovic couldn’t resist teasing his rival. In a behind-the-scenes video posted on the ATP Tour’s X account, Djokovic, while having his picture taken, remarked, “I started thinking about Andy Murray,” before feigning boredom and rubbing his hand against his face, eliciting laughter from those present.

The timing of Djokovic’s light-hearted moment coincided with the ATP Tour’s publication of a quote from Murray, suggesting it could be his last appearance at the Australian Open. Reflecting on Murray’s performance, former British No.1 Tim Henman commented, “I think it was a painful watch, and he looked lost on and off the court.” Henman expressed a desire to see Murray enjoying himself on the court after the challenges he has faced.
