Craig Tiley spoke to ESN in the aftermath of the Australian Open on Wednesday, “This guy, I did see he had a three centimetre tear in his hammy. It’s hard to believe that someone can do what they do with those types of injuries, but he’s remarkable,” Tiley said of Djokovic’s victory.

When questioned, Tiley reaffirmed that he has seen the scans. “Absolutely (I saw the scans), the doctors are going to tell you the truth,” he added. “To win 10 Australian Opens, I don’t think that will ever be repeated. He’s so focused on everything he does – every single minute of the day. What he eats, what he drinks, when he does it, how he does it. There’s no mental breakdown ever in what he does,” Tiley went on to speak in awe of Djokovic’s achievement.

Djokovic suffered the injury during his title winning campaign at the Adelaide International just ahead of the Australian Open. At Melbourne Park he struggled with his movement in the first few matches. However he got better with every match and made his way into the final after winning three successive matches in straight sets.

In the final, he removed the strapping on his leg and went on the win the title. He defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets. This victory made him equal Rafael Nadal’s tally of 22 Grand Slam titles.

During the tournament, Djokovic’s injury came under scrutiny with some peopel from the Tennis fraternity claiming that he was faking the niggle. the 35-year-old hit out at those who questioned the severity of the injury. “I leave the doubting to those people – let them doubt,” he said.

“Only my injuries are questioned. When some other players are injured, then they are the victims, but when it is me, I am faking it. It is very interesting… I don’t feel that I need to prove anything to anyone.”

With the victory, he has now also clinched the top spot in the World rankings. He is also unbeaten this year after winning back-to-back titles in Adelaide International and Australian Open. He will next miss the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open and is likely to make his return ahead of the clay court season.
