Novak Djokovic once again asserted his dominance on the Rod Laver Arena court, playing host to the “Novak Djokovic and Friends” event during the Opening Week of the Australian Open 2024 . The Serbian, currently holding the top spot in the world rankings, engaged in a lively conversation with Nick Kyrgios, a notable turnaround in their relationship.
Previously at odds, Kyrgios had referred to the 24-time Grand Slam champion as “a tool,” but their dynamics shifted when Kyrgios supported Djokovic during his Australia deportation controversy related to Covid vaccination.
“You were one of the very few colleagues on the tour to use his platform, use his voice, to support me (during the deportation) and that is something I will never forget,” said Djokovic.
The camaraderie between the two has grown so much that they are now planning to practice together at Melbourne Park next week, with Kyrgios recovering from an ankle injury.
Djokovic, showcasing his versatility, ventured into basketball and displayed proficiency in various disciplines. He enthusiastically embraced challenges, participating in a flexibility contest with international gymnast Georgia Godwin and engaging in friendly competitions with Aussie cricket legend Steve Smith in both cricket and tennis.
