Umran Malik won’t be travelling to China for Asian Games 2023. Instead, it will be Akash Deep. Pacer Shivam Mavi is nursing a back injury and is currently out of action. While there were reports of Umran Malik making it to India squad for Asian Games in Hangzhou, it will be the Bengal pacer.
“The Men’s Selection Committee named Akash Deep as replacement for Shivam Mavi in the Indian squad for the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. Mavi is suffering from a back injury and is ruled out of the tournament,” BCCI said in a statement.

No Yash Thakur in Asian Games squad
According to The Indian Express, the selection intended to send Yash Thakur, who was maintained on the standby list, but the Vidarbha pacer too has a back injury.
Due to rigorous guidelines enforced by the Indian delegation at the Asiad village, the Indian team would not be flying with reserve players.
The National Cricket Academy (NCA) will oversee the two-week camp that the Indian squad members have been invited to in Bangalore. The second-string Indian team will be coached by VVS Laxman, Sariaj Bahutule, Munish Bali, and bowling coach Sariaj Bahutule.
From September 23 to October 8, the Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will serve as the team’s skipper. The BCCI first justified skipping the Asiad by citing prior obligations, but then changed its mind and opted to field both men’s and women’s teams.
Because the main team will be engaged in the 50-over World Cup, which will be played at home, the men’s team will be a B squad. Hence, Umran Malik has got the chance to show his potential now in China.
The men’s cricket competition will begin on September 28 and go until October 8, while the women’s competition will run from September 19 through September 28. The T20 format will be used for both competitions.
India squad for Asian Games 2023: Ruturaj Gaikwad (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rahul Tripathi, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Shivam Mavi, Shivam Dube, Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Akash Deep.
