National coach Virender Dahiya has claimed that wrestler Nisha Dahiya was intentionally injured by her North Korean opponent Sol Gum Pak. Nisha’s medal hopes in Paris Olympics came to an end after she suffered an injury in the quarterfinals of women’s 68kg division. Nisha’s coach Virender Dahiya has accused the North Korean corner of shouting instructions to the wrestler, directing her to injure Nisha.
Nisha Dahiya injured intentionally: Coach
“It was 100 percent intentional, they hurt her intentionally. We had seen, there was an instruction from the Korean corner. They attacked the joint. They have taken away the medal from her,” national coach Virender Dahiya told PTI.
At the time of her injury, Nisha was leading the bout 8-2. The injury, a shoulder dislocation, occurred as a result of a takedown executed by her opponent. She ultimately lost the match by a score of 8-10
“The way Nisha had started, the medal was in her neck and it has been taken away. The attacks were clear, the counter-attack worked and the defence was compact. She had beaten the same wrestler at the Asian Qualifier, there was no way Nisha was losing this,” he added.
