The other three quotas have all been in female category by Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, and Preeti Pawar

In a remarkable feat, Nishant Dev, the bronze medalist at the World Championships, continued his impressive streak by securing the first Olympic quota for India in men’s boxing at the Paris Olympics 2024 qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand. This achievement brings a ray of joy amidst the recent setback of Parveen Hooda losing her Olympic berth due to actions by the International Testing Agency (ITA).

Undeterred by the challenges, Nishant, ultimately clinched India’s first men’s boxing quota for the 2024 Paris Olympics. With Nishant’s triumph, India’s tally of Paris Olympics quotas now stands at four, alongside Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, and Preeti Pawar, marking a significant milestone for Indian boxing on the global stage.

Facing Vesile Cebotari from Moldova in the 71kg category quarter-final, Nishant displayed sheer dominance, securing a unanimous decision victory and sealing his spot at the Paris Olympics. From the onset, Nishant’s aggressive approach was evident, landing impactful blows on his opponent.

Despite Cebotari’s attempts, he failed to match Nishant’s intensity, resulting in a clear victory for the Indian boxer in the first round, with all judges scoring in his favor. The second round witnessed a similar narrative, as Nishant unleashed a flurry of punches, leaving Cebotari visibly shaken. Although the Moldovan fighter managed to land some punches, Nishant remained composed and retaliated effectively, securing the round with four judges in his favour.
