Nick Kyrgios’ struggles with injury continue; withdraws from US Open 2023

Kyrgios has played just one match in 2023.

Last year’s quarterfinal and Wimbledon 2022 finalist, Nick Kyrgios, has withdrawn from the US Open 2023. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) confirmed what fans had been thinking with the news of Kyrgios pulling out of the Cincinnati Masters announced earlier in the day. USTA said on Thursday, August 10,  that the Australian is still recovering from ankle and wrist injuries.

The 28-year-old has missed all four slams in 2023 due to injury after having a career-best season in 2022.

Due to his injury, the Aussie has played just one match this year.

The 28-year-old had surgery on his left knee earlier in the year and was beaten in his comeback match following a five-month layoff when he fell to China’s Wu Yibing in the Stuttgart Open first round in June.

He began his season by sitting out the Australian Open because of an injured left knee that required arthroscopic surgery.

Kyrgios then missed the French Open 2023 due to a foot injury suffered during the theft of his car and pulled out of Wimbledon 2023 with wrist issues.

Germany Jan-Lennard Struff has also withdrawn from the US Open 2023, the USTA said.

Due to the withdrawals, Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta and Diego Schwartzman moved into the main draw.

The season’s final grand slam runs from August 28 to September 10.
