Egyptian Lawyer Sued Netflix After Tristan Tate Raised Voice Against It

The controversy around the documentary began when Andrew Tate’s brother, Tristan Tate, criticized the documentary on Twitter, calling it agenda. His tweets received backlash from many who called him racist. And now Lawyer accused Netflix of participating in a “crime”.

After an Egyptian lawyer sued Netflix over the issue, Tristan Tate tweeted: “Where are all the black racists who attacked me for this post?” referring to his earlier criticism of the documentary.

The lawsuit and Tristan Tate’s comments have created controversy over Netflix, race relations, and who has the right to depict ancient Egyptian history. The Netflix documentary aims to explore a theory that Cleopatra’s mother was of African descent, leading Cleopatra to also be part African. However, some disagree with this interpretation and believe Cleopatra was of Macedonian Greek descent.

Regardless of interpretations of Cleopatra’s race, many see the legal actions against Netflix as an attempt at censorship. Netflix has not yet commented on the lawsuit or controversy. The “Queen Cleopatra” documentary is still scheduled for release on Netflix, though it’s unclear if Egypt’s lawsuit will impact its availability there.

The controversy highlights the complex debates surrounding race, history, and freedom of expression. Depictions of historical figures that differ from popular belief are often controversial, even if based on some scholarly theory or interpretation. At the same time, some see such depictions as “woke” political correctness gone too far. This issue is sure to continue being debated as more filmmakers and scholars explore interpretations of history that challenge prevailing views.
