Neeraj Chopra clarifies on skipping Paris Diamond League: ‘Not part of the calendar’

Neeraj Chopra is one of the top medal hopes for the Indian team in Paris Olympics

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra took to social media to address his absence from the upcoming Paris Diamond League, scheduled for July 7th.

Recent media reports suggested Chopra opted out of the Paris Diamond League to prioritise the Olympics. However, Chopra clarified that this wasn’t the case.

“Just to clarify: #ParisDL wasn’t part of my competition calendar this season, so I haven’t ‘withdrawn’ from it,” he stated.

This clarifies that his absence wasn’t a last-minute decision but rather a pre-planned one based on his schedule.

Best Wishes to Competitors

Despite not competing himself, Chopra displayed sportsmanship by sending his best wishes to the athletes participating in the Paris Diamond League. “Wishing all the athletes competing all the best!” he concluded.

Kishore Jena to take part

Not Neeraj Chopra, but 2022 Asian Games silver medalist Kishore Jena will be in Paris to take part in the Paris Diamond League. Jena, who has already qualified for the Paris Olympics, clinched a bronze medal at the recently concluded Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula with a best throw of 80.84 meters. He’ll be hoping for a good performance in Paris.

Neeraj Chopra won gold in Finland

Neeraj Chopra, India’s star javelin thrower, most recently competed in June at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland. He secured the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event with a best throw of 85.97 meters on his third attempt.
