National Games 2022 LIVE: After a six-year hiatus, the 36th edition of the National Games 2022 has officially kickstarted on Thursday after a grand opening ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium at Ahmedabad. The Games was inaugurated  by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is scheduled to be held till 12th October. A total of 36 sports competitions will be held across six cities in Gujarat – Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot.

In the last edition of the National Games held in Kerala in 2015, Services (91 Gold, 33 Silver and 35 Bronze) had topped with 159 medals followed by hosts Kerala and Haryana.

About 7,000 athletes from 28 states and eight union territories will participate in this edition of the National Games and InsideSport takes a look at the complete schedule of the event.

The National Games 2022 will begin from 29th September and will end on 12th October. The opening ceremony will be taking place on the 29th of September.

The 36th edition of the National Games, which will be officially called open on Thursday, have already become a case study for future hosts. “We could manage to do everything in 100 days,” said Gujarat sports minister Harsh Sanghvi.

“We wrote to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) of our wish to host the Games in Gujarat in September and we were asked if it was possible. We invited the IOA members and gave our plan, which they accepted,” Sanghvi added.

For the first time, the hosts of the National Games have not built even a single venue for the sport.

When will the National Games of India 2022 begin?

The National Games is making a comeback after a long gap of seven years. Technically, the event started with the table tennis competition, which was held between September 20 to 24.

Which all cities in Gujarat are hosting the event?

The Games will be held across six cities of Gujarat – Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar. However, the track cycling event will take place in Delhi at the velodrome.

When was the LAST National Games took place?

The previous edition of the National Games took place in Kerala in 2015. Goa was supposed to host the next National Games in 2016 but due to logistical issues, the event kept getting postponed.

What are the events at this edition of the National Games?

Around 7000 athletes from 28 states and eight union territories along with the Services – sports team of the Indian Armed Forces, will participate in the National Games. Overall, there are 36 sporting events.

These are: Aquatics, archery, Indian archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, beach sports, boxing, canoeing, cycling, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, judo, kabaddi, kho kho, lawn bowls, mallakhambh, netball, roller sports, rowing, rugby 7s, shooting, soft tennis, softball, squash, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu and yogasana.

The Games will be televised live on Doordarshan Sports and the YouTube channel of Prasar Bharti Sports.
