The Games is making its return after a seven-year hiatus as the previous edition was held way back in 2015 which was hosted by Kerala. The next edition was scheduled to be conducted at 2020 but due to Covid, it was cancelled and two years later, Gujarat has been chosen as the host city marking the return of the multi-sport event.
For the first time, Gujarat will be hosting the event that is set to witness over 7000 athletes from the country who will all be in action across 34 different sports like Athletics, Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Judo, Wrestling, Kabaddi and Khokho.
The previous edition of the Games witnessed more than 7,700 athletes who were in action across 30 sporting events. Services Sports Control Board topped the medal charts in each of the three previous editions. Last year, they won 159 medals in total that includes 91 gold. Kerala finished second with 162 medals out of which 54 were gold.
This year, Indian sports like Kabaddi, Kho-kho, Mallakhamb and even Yogasana have been included in the sporting event.
