The Indian men’s hockey team narrowly edged past Spain in the bronze medal match at Paris Olympics, on Thursday. And that is how Harmanpreet Singh’s men pouched their second successive bronze at the Games after Tokyo 2020. But that came after a lot of hard work by the boys, as well as coach Craig Fulton.
As soon as the clock ticket to 0.0, the Indian team burst into celebrations. There were hugs and fist pumps all around. But the first message from coach Fulton was pretty simple. When the team got into the huddle, he said, “We stay humble.”
Of course the coach reserved some high praise for the entire team, but it was clear, that Fulton wants the team to grow further from here. “There was a plan in place, and that’s why we have won,” he added.
India Clinch Two Successive Hockey Medals
What is even more remarkable about the feat is that, among the big nations, India defied all odds to clinch this medal. They were in poor form into the lead up of the Olympics, and yet put up a superlative show, to edge past top teams. Meanwhile, this was PR Sreejesh’s last match for the country, as he signs off his illustrious career with two bronze medals at the Olympics.
