Ruud won the opening set 6-4 and then completely dominated the unseeded Cerundolo to send a big message ahead of his first 1000 Masters Final. He has been making in Grand Slams over the year but will be keen to add ATP title ahead of the French Open and Monte Carlo Masters.

- Casper Ruud started the year with the ATP Cup, where his team Norway, bowed out in the group stage.
- His first tournament this year was the Argentina Open and he clinched the title by defeating Diego Schwartzmann in straight sets.
- He then played the Indian Wells Masters and made a second round exit by losing in straight sets to Nick Kyrgios.
- He was seeded sixth in the Miami Open and had a great tournament so far. He received a bye in the first round and won his next three matches easily in straight sets by facing Henri Laaksonen, Alexander Bublik and Christopher Norrie.
- Against Zverev in the quarterfinal, he won the first set easily but the German pushed the game into the third set, Ruud however kept his calm and came back to win the third set as the final score read 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. He is now looking to win his second title this year.
