- 24-year old Zverev, who won the Tokyo Olympic Gold medal, started the year with the Austsralian Open, where he made a fourth round exit after losing to Denis Shapovalov.
- He then reached the finals of the Open Sud de France but lost to Alexander Bublik in straight sets in the summit clash.
- His next appearance was in the Mexican Open, where he was dsqualified after winning his first round.
- Being seeded as the number two he now looks to make a strong comeback in the Miami Open.
By winning against Coric, Zverev has now equlled their head-to-head record which stands at 3-3.
