Novak Djokovic, who has won his first two group matches in straight sets was pushed to his limits against Medvedev as he dropped a set for the first time this week to prevail 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(2).
In a high-quality contest, Djokovic began positively as he held on to his service games and finally found a break in the eight game of the set to take the scores to 5-3. He soon closed out the first set by clinching it 6-3.
Djokovic was expected to carry forwards the same momentum and seal the game in straight sets. However, Djokovic came back strong in the second set as he never gave an opportunity for Djokovic to break him and eventuallt the set moved into the tie-breaker, which the Russian managed to win to take the match to three sets.

However Medvedev managed to break the Serbian to take a 5-4 lead. But he couldn’t hold his serve in the next game as Djokovic broke him back and took the contest into the tie-break yet again. This time, it was the seventh seed who prevailed to earn his earn his 40th tour-level win of the season after three hours and five minutes.
Djokovic, who last lifted the Brad Drewett Trophy in 2015, is aiming to tie Roger Federer’s record six triumphs at the tournament, which is being held in Turin for the second time. The former World No. 1 has now won 16 of his past 17 matches, having triumphed in Tel Aviv and Astana last month.
