Manu Bhaker holds back tears after missing out on third Paris Olympics medal, thanks PM Modi for support

Paris Olympics: Manu Bhaker finished 4th in the women's 25m pistol event, ending her hopes to win third medal at the Games.

What is the worst thing that could happen to an athlete at the Olympics? Finishing last? No, finishing fourth, short of a bronze medal. And that is exactly what happened with our twin-medalist shooter from Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker, where she finished fourth in the 25m pistol event. The margins were so close, that she was locked at 28-28 with the Hungarian shooter Veronica Major, who pipped the Indian.

After the event ended in a disappointment for Manu Bhaker, she tried hard to hold back her tears. Asked about her fourth place finish, the 22-year-old said, “Right now, I’m not very…4th place is not a good finish,” she told JioCinema.

On being asked about her journey from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, to now, Manu made it clear that there was a lot of work that went in behind the scenes. She also spoke about the support that came in from PM Modi. “There has been a lot of hard work happening behind the scenes. You can see me here, but my entire team has been working so hard so that I, and the country can get a medal.

“I would like to thank each and every one who took out time for me. SAI, sports ministry, OGQ team, and especially PM Modi, who gave me his precious time.”
