Former health minister Mansukh Madaviya has been given the charge of the Sports Ministry in PM Narendra Modi’s new cabinet. The Council of Ministers were administered the oath in the swearing-in ceremony that was held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. Mandaviya will replace Anurag Thakur, who was the Sports Minister in Modi 2.0 cabinet.

Earlier in 2019, Kiren Rijiju was made the sports minister after NDA swept the General Elections. He was instrumental in initiating various programmes, including the Khelo India, in efforts to boost the popularity of sports apart from cricket in various parts of the country. He was then made the Law Minister and was later given the Science Ministry portfolio.
Anurag Thakur then took charge of the Sports Ministry in 2022. For the year 2024-25, Rs 3442 cr has been allotted from the General Budget for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
