Commonwealth Games champion Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra will spearhead a six-member Indian table tennis team for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 41-year-old Sharath Kamal is set to make his fifth and final appearance at the Olympics, while Manika Batra will play at her third successive Games. All six players for the Indian Olympic table tennis team were selected based on world rankings. India Table Tennis team for Olympics 2024
Sharath Kamal, India’s top-ranked men’s singles table tennis player at world No. 38, Manav Thakkar, world No. 57; and national champion Harmeet Desai, ranked 86, will form the men’s team in the upcoming Olympics 2024.
Manika Batra (currently 28th), who climbed to a career-best rank of world No. 24 following a historic run at Saudi Smash last week, Sreeja Akula, ranked 25th, and Archana Kamath, world No. 122, will compete in the women’s team event.
Paris 2024 will mark the first time that India will have representation in the team table tennis events at the Olympics. Both the men’s and women’s team events were introduced in the Olympics back in 2008.
