In what comes as unfortunate result for India shuttler Malvika Bansod, the 23-year-old lost the Hylo Open final on Sunday, vs Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt 10-21, 15-21. Despite playing so well throughout the tournament, the enormity of occasion got the better of the youngster, who was looking for her first Super 300 title.
Malvika Bansod was no match to her opponent, despite starting the match with 4-1 lead. After this, the Danish girl got eight-back-to-back points to make her intentions clear, while the Indian faded away soon. The game too ended in just 14 minutes. Thereafter, the southpaw could not contain the powerful smashed by Mia in the second game as well, who is a former World No.11.
The second game also began with a lot of promise for Malvika, with her leading at 7-3, and 10-6, but just could not keep up the momentum to pull things back in her favour. That said, this tournament was a reflection of what she can achieve in the next few years to come.
It must be reminded to one and all, that this was her second Super 300 final, the first one being Syed Modi International in 2022, where she lost in the final to PV Sindhu. In fact, had she managed to win here, she would have been only the third women’s singles shuttler from the country to win a Super 300 title, after Sindhu and Saina Nehwal.
NZ Thrash IND 0-3, Poor Day Continues
It was a forgetful day for the Indian sports fan overall. First, the Indian cricket team was punished by the Kiwis 0-3 in the Test series, as they were whitewashed. That result marked the end of Rohit Sharma’s team dominance at home Tests. And then, it was the result by Malvika, that further brought disappointment.
