Malaysia Masters Highlights: PV Sindu defeated China’s Zhang Yi Man in a nail-biting quarterfinal encounter at the Malaysia Masters 2023. Sindhu sealed a 21-16, 13-21, 22-20 win against the Chinese to book spot in the semifinal on Friday, 26th May 2023. HS Prannoy also won his quarterfinal contest with a 25-23, 18-21, 21-13 win against Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto. Kidambi Srikanth has bowed out from the quarterfinal. Kidambi Srikanth LOST TO Christian Adinata – 21-16, 16-21, 11-21

Kidambi Srikanth vs Christian Adinata

Kidambi Srikanth started the first game by trailing 1-3. He soon clawed his way back with five successive points and took 6-3 lead. He maintained the upper hand in the game and entered the interval with a four-point advantage. Srikanth continued the momentum and clinched the first game 21-16.

In the second game, Adinata began with four straight points to go up 4-1. Srikanth soon levelled the scores but Adinata didn’t let the Indian take the lead as he fought back with three straight points. Srikanth yet again reduced the deficit and levelled the scores 10-10. He entered the interval witha slender lead after an error from Adinata.

The neck-to-neck battle between both the players continued in the second-half of the second game. Srikanth however committed three successive net-errors that proved very costly as Adinata clawed his way back and won the game 21-16.

In the decider, Adinata continued the momentum as he takes seven straight points to go up 10-3. A service error from Srikanth helped the Indonesian enter the interval with a 11-6 lead. Adinata continue to dominate the contest as he took successive streak of points and soon has 10 match points. He then sealed the match with a smash and defeated Srikanth.

HS Prannoy vs Kenta Nishimoto

Prannoy continued his brilliant run as he defeated Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the quarterfinal. He will next face Christian Adinata of Indonesia. Prannoy began the contest by conceding an early 0-3 lead. He however fought back to level at 5-5.

Nishimoto then took four successive points to go up 9-5 and soon entered the interval with a lead. Prannoy yet again played catch up and took 16-13 lead. The shift in momentum continued as Nishimoto took back the lead and earned a game point at 20-17. Prannoy saved it and both the players players fought hard before Prannoy clinched the game 25-23.

In the second game too the close battle continued and Nishimoto entered the interval with a 11-9 lead. After the interval, from 12-11, Nishimoto took five straight points to go up 17-11. Prannoy yet again managed to reduce the defiict to18-19. Nishimoto however clinched back-to-back points and took the contest into the decider.

In the third game, Prannoy led right from the start as he entered the interval with a six-point cushion.The World No.7 didn’t let the Japanese claw his way back as he continued to dominate and comfortably sealed the victory.

PV Sindhu vs Zhang Yi Man

PV Sindhu defeated China’s Zhanag Yiman to enter the semifinal. With the win she has levelled her head-to-head record 3-3 against the Chinese. Zhang Yi Man began the contest with a 5-0 lead.

Sindhu fought back and reduced the deficit as she entered the interval with a 11-10 lead. Sindhu maintained her lead in the first game and went on to win the game 21-16.

Change of side worked in favour of Zhang Yi Man as she began the contest with a 6-3 lead. Errors from Sindhu’s side mounted Yi Man entered the interval with a seven-point lead. It soon became a one-way traffic as Yi Man went on to win the game and took the contest to the decider.

In the third game, Sindhu took lead early in the game and entered the interval with the score at 11-8. After the change of ends, Zhang Yi Man clawed her way back and levelled the scores 12-12. She soon took the lead and both the players fought tooth and nail.

A long shot from Zhang Yi Man helps her take back the lead at 18-17. The contest went down the wire and a net-error from Sindhu helped Yi Man save two match points as she went ahead with the score a 20-19. Sindhu yet again levelled the scores and a service error from Yi Man gave her the match point. Yi Man then made another error with a wide shot that helped Sindhu clinch the contest.
