Veteran Indian shuttler PV Sindhu stunned top-seeded Chinese player Han Yue in order to advance to the Malaysia Masters 2024 semifinals. On Friday, May 24, Sindhu advanced to her first-ever BWF tour semifinals after winning the quarterfinal 21-13, 14-21, 21-12.
The winner of the other quarterfinal between Putri Kusuma Wardani of Singapore and Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand will now play Sindhu. Prior to the match, Sindhu had defeated Sim Yu Jin of the Republic of Korea 21-13, 12-21, 21-14 in 59 minutes, and she had successfully maintained her form against her Chinese opponent in the quarterfinals.

Sindhu, currently ranked 15th in the world, is aiming to secure her first BWF title since emerging victorious at the Singapore Open in 2022. This year, she opted out of competing in the Thailand Open and Uber Cup, and has faced a mix of challenges and successes. In February, she made a comeback to the court following a period of recovery from an injury.
Winning the Malaysia Masters would give her a huge confidence boost, especially since the Paris Olympics are just two months away. After her request was granted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Mission Olympic Cell (MOC), Sindhu will train in Germany ahead of the quadrennial event, which is set to begin on July 26.
