Ace shuttler PV Sindhu on Saturday persevered against Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan to reach the final of Malaysia Masters 2024. Sindhu made a comeback after losing the first set to win the tie 13-21, 21-16 and 21-12. She will face Wang Zhiyi of China in the final on Sunday.
Sindhu came into the tie with an impeccable record against Busanan in the head-to-head front. The Indian shuttler had only lost a single tie in 18 matches they had faced each other till now. Busanan’s only win against Sindhu came in 2019 and the Indian shuttler had won 7 straight matches against her opponent till then.

However, it was Busanan who managed to get off the blocks faster in the first game. She controlled the baseline very well and took quite a few points off Sindhu with her drop shots. After a balanced start, Busanan took the first game away, eventually winning the tie 13-21.

Sindhu, who looked passive in the first game, improved in the second. She started played much better in front of the net and her signature smashes also came into the game. Busanan, meanwhile lost all her reviews and was left at the mercy of the umpires. Sindhu made the comeback, winning the game 21-16.

With the game finely poised, spectators were in for a treat in the third game. Sindhu took a quick 4-1 lead in the third game, as Busanan looked tired. Sindhu took a massive lead of 6 points on the halfway stage of the third game, leading 11-5. Busanan made quite a few unforced errors in the third game which aided Sindhu to a great extent. Busanan made a comeback in the game, pushing the tie to 12-9 at one point of time, she managed to hold off her nerves to see off the game 21-12.
