In the women’s singles quarterfinal, PV Sindhu, the fifth seed, defeated Han Yue, the top seed from China, 21-13, 14-21, 21-12 to advance to the final four. In the second round, though, the two-time Olympic medallist had to weather a scare from Korea’s Sim Yu Jin.
On the other side the Thai shuttler defeated Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia with a valiant 21-12, 21-23, 21-16 victory in the quarter finals. She had previously defeated Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei and Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt.
