India’s badminton journey at the Madrid Spain Masters 2024 came to an end on Saturday when B Sumeeth Reddy and N Sikki Reddy were eliminated from the mixed doubles competition. The husband-and-wife Indian team was eliminated from the BWF Super 300 tournament after losing 21-17, 21-12 in 29 minutes to the 17th world-ranked Indonesian team of Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.

The remainder of the Indian contingent had bowed out earlier. PV Sindhu was ousted in the quarter-finals. Having given up the first four points of the first game, Sikki Reddy, who was ranked 41st in the mixed doubles, and Sumeeth Reddy, who was ranked 66th, were behind early.

Though they battled back to tie the match at six all, the Indian badminton players were still behind the Indonesians by three points at the half. Sumeeth and Sikki overcame their opponents and led 16–15 at one point thanks to a four-point rally. The winners of the Spain Masters mixed doubles championship in 2021, Rivaldy and Mentari turned the tide of the match with five straight points.

After the second game was tied at eight points apiece, the Indonesians took control of the game with eight consecutive points.
